How to apply:

The CAO application form allows an applicant to apply to more than one institution and allows up to six choices on the same application form.

STEP 1:
Consult the CAO handbook that provides listings of qualifications available at the different institutions.

STEP 2:
Have a look through the various courses offered and choose a programme that interests you and for which you may qualify. Pay attention to closing dates for qualifications.

STEP 3:
Find the programme code that is linked to the qualification that you have chosen. This code needs to be entered on the application form.

STEP 4:
Use this programme code when completing the CAO form, which is available from the CAO, the CAO website, the University’s Application and Information Office at Howard College, or the Student Academic Administration Offices at Edgewood, Howard College, Pietermaritzburg and Westville campuses.

Download an application form for Undergraduate (Local & International) at www.ukzn.ac.za under Applications; or Contact UKZN on +27 (0) 31-260 2212/ 1084 or +27 (0) 33 260 5212 to request an applications form and a copy of the

Undergraduate Prospectus; or

Write to enquiries@ukzn.ac.za to request application material.

No late applications will be accepted from international applicants.

Note that Medical School will consider a limited number of applications from International candidates viz., from Lesotho, in line with SADC agreement. These applicants need to apply through their Department of Health, and not directly to UKZN. Medical School no longer accepts students from Mauritius.

No other international applications will be considered.

Application Process for International Students

If you would like to apply for admission to a full time undergraduate programme, you must apply on the UKZN Undergraduate application form. A non-refundable application fee is payable to UKZN. Enclose proof of payment as well as all documents requested on submission of your application. Take care to ensure that your application reaches us before the closing date.

Refugee applicants must be in possession of a valid Section 41 permit/Refugee identity document which grants you permission to study. Application procedures and application fees as for local students are applicable. Apply via the Central Applications Office. For more information, please contact: +27(0)31 268 4444 or log onto www.cao.ac.za. International students are required to pay the full tuition fees before they register.

Undergraduate International Applicants

International applicants are subject to a selection procedure based on academic merit and the number of spaces available. Applicants with non – South African school leaving certificates must contact the Higher Education South Africa (HESA) directly to determine if they qualify for admission to degree studies in South Africa.

International applicants may qualify for exemption through AEB or Cambridge examinations if they have appropriate A-level, AS-level, IB or equivalent. However, certain subject groupings are also required. O-levels only are not sufficient. Please refer to the hesa-enrol site to refer to your country: http://www.hesa-enrol.ac.za

Please note that programmes may have subject, level and minimum performance requirements for admission to their programmes.

Consult the entrance requirement tabulations information on subject requirements. Please ensure that you have your original documents available at registration and arrange for official translations where applicable. A HESA evaluation is compulsory. SAQA is not acceptable.
